A  Collective Voice for Our Lafayette Place Neighbors

Welcome to

Mr. Mike's Neighborhood Resident-Union

Mr. Mike’s Neighborhood Resident-Union was created because the Neighbors of Lafayette Place Mobile Home Park recognized the need for a stronger, more organized voice in matters that directly affect their homes, safety, finances, and overall quality of life.  By forming a Resident-Union, our Neighbors now have a unified and structured way to communicate concerns, advocate for fair treatment, encourage accountability, and work together toward maintaining a safe, respectful, and well-managed Community. This effort is about our Neighbors standing together in a positive and constructive way to protect the stability and future of our Neighborhood.  Join Your Resident-Union Today!

Welcome to Mr. Mike’s Neighborhood: Warren Mobile Home Park Resident Starts Union

by Sofia Lada, Macomb Daily

Mike Whitty, 77, has lived at the Lafayette Place Mobile Home Park in Warren for more than 15 years. In his time there, he’s faced his fair share of difficulties with the management company. So, in an effort to combat those issues and to improve the quality of living throughout the neighborhood, Whitty launched Mr. Mike’s Neighborhood, a neighborhood association, in October 2022 to provide his neighbors with food, clothing, toys and other support.  Read More...

Warren Manufactured Housing Community Forms Rare Resident Union to Address Quality of Life Concerns

Union aims to provide a safe forum for voicing grievances

By Kyla Russell, WDIV

Manufactured housing residents at a Southeast Michigan community are taking the rare move and creating a resident-union. It comes after Local 4 reported on a series of stories about issues plaguing communities across the region. “Join the resident-union. We will be there for you,” Mike Whitty, the director of the resident-union and Mr. Mike’s Neighborhood, said when reading a sign displayed in his front yard.   Read More...

YOUR HOSTS

Mike Whitty

Mr. Mike has been a resident at Lafayette Place for over 15 years.  He started Mr. Mike's Neighborhood almost 4 years ago which has provided his Neighbors with food, clothing, toys and more.  He has dedicated his life to helping his Neighbors have a wonderful experience while living here.

Linda Varee

Miss Linda has been a resident at Lafayette Place for over 36 years.  Her expertise in working with Section 8 housing added a special quality to Mr. Mike's Neighborhood.  She has helped many Neighbors navigate their way through mobile home living and has proven to be an asset to her Community in every way.

WHY IT'S IMPORTANT FOR YOU TO JOIN

It is important for you to join your Resident-Union because a United Community carries far more influence than individual voices acting alone. When more Neighbors participate, the Resident-Union becomes stronger, more credible, and more effective in addressing issues that affect everyone in the Park. Membership allows Neighbors to stay informed, support one another, and help shape the future of our Community through collective action and organized communication. The Resident-Union provides Neighbors with a real opportunity to take part in decisions affecting their environment and helps ensure that Lafayette Place Neighbors are treated fairly, respectfully, and with the attention they deserve from Sun Communities and Park Management.  JOIN NOW!

Why Can't Mobile Home Residents Be Treated Like Brick Home Residents

Mobile homes have long been a popular housing option for many individuals and families across the United States. These homes were supposed to offer a more affordable alternative to traditional brick homes, allowing individuals to own their own property without breaking the bank. However, despite the benefits that mobile homes provide, residents of these homes are often treated differently than those who live in brick homes. This raises the question: why can't mobile home residents be treated like brick home residents?  Read More...

Is Sun Communities Looked at

as a Slum Lord

Sun Communities is the second largest owners of manufactured housing communities in the country. However, despite its size and success, the company has faced criticism and allegations of being a "slum lord" in the eyes of some residents and advocacy groups.

Neighbors can find the library and food pantry's at #828

When we learned that the children in our area were reading way below grade level, we created the Free Children's Library.

When we realized that even food stamps didn't go a long way for some of our Neighbors, we created the Free Food Pantry to fill that need.

When we learned that the children in our area weren't getting enough fruit in their diets, we created the Free Fruit Pantry to make our kids healthier.

These Pantry's are to benefit the

entire Community.  We would appreciate our

Neighbor's help in keeping them full.

Porch Pirate Pickup Program

Porch pirates take advantage of packages left outside your home when no one is there to receive them. So we created the Porch Pirate Pickup Program.

Once you receive information that your package has been delivered, just text me your name and house number and we will pick it up, free of charge as always.

Once you return home just drop by #828 to retrieve your package.  Our program can decrease theft in our Community by 100%.

Neighbor's Giving Days

Throughout the week we receive donations of books, food, clothing, toys and much more from our Neighbors who give back to their Community.  On Saturday and Sunday, weather and donation volume permitting, you'll experience the generosity that exists within Lafayette Place Mobile Home Park with their gifts.

To donate clothing, have them washed, folded and placed in a bag.  You can leave all donations on my porch at #828.

All items displayed are always free.
